Yeah, that's the really confusing thing with all of this. Chuck Todd, NBC Sr. WH guy, was given the same documents for his kids. Apparently it's a state-by-state thing and usually the hospital keeps a record in it's dark vaults or something. Obviously this is a really bad process - what if the hospital burns down? What if the records are destroyed somehow (water damage, hospital goes out of business)? So, the bottom line is that you could probably go to the hospital and request the "birth certificate document not the certificate of live birth" and maybe get it but the key point is ... LEGALLY YOU DON'T HAVE TOO! And neither does the president. Thus the insanity of this whole birther thing. Further, run through the scenarios for Obama: * He's a secret non-citizen baby for some nefarious purpose. Well wouldn't it make more sense for him to be a citizen then? Ok, scratch that one. * He was born elsewhere, knows it, but through a genius level parental scam (involving newspaper announcements) etc he was claimed as a US citizen when he wasn't. So in that case he'd just apply for immigrant status (decades ago) like any reasonably intelligent person would. So scratch that one. * He was born elsewhere and doesn't know it. As a kid with one parent a US citizen and another who was married to said US citizen for 4 years ... how would that even work? And why would they go through all the effort of some scam when they could just do it normally? If it was a scam they'd have to have been pretty extensive given the newspaper announcements, etc and how did they sneak out and back in to the country with no records? Of course trying to find a logical way for something like this to have happened is ridiculous because it didn't. And, personally, if these people were so smart to have pulled this off ... those are exactly the type of immigrants I want.
