It's really kind of hilarious that Wyden is touted as a civil libertarian Senator. He's not a bad guy or anything but has always been kind of a middle of the road, centrist sort of dude. He's known as something of a health care wonk, but absolutely not a single payer kind of guy. He has been working with Paul Ryan on an attempt at a bipartisan budget plan that deals with Medicare (and he got totally reamed by progressives for that one).
Just goes to show you how far things have gone that an otherwise pretty mellow centrist is somehow now a civil liberties firebrand. Sad day indeed for it to come to that. Still, glad Wyden and Udall are doing something at least.
