The US is not under the jurisdiction of the UN, so even if that was his plan, which I doubt, it wouldn't work. Very few US citizens would stand for that, including me. (I actually had a strong anti-gun control stance until one Mother's Day when my son was having lunch at the neighborhood Mexican restaurant when the entire front of the place was shot up in a drive-by. Changed my views pretty drastically.)
As for Repubs v Dems...Romney and Obama are the guys, at least this round.
