If a company puts anything on your credit report which is incorrect, especially if you have evidence that you paid the debt, you can sue that company for any damages that occur such as the lost of a loan or higher interest rates. You can also get punitive damages, I believe.
If he has the cancelled check for $130 for the bill, he should be okay.
