I think it has its plusses and minuses but overall I think it works well. We use it here for both ColdFusion and ASP. I don't think it overcomplicates things. If you have a template set up that you carve all of your code out of you just copy those files and away you go. Aside from the switch statement and layout file there really isn't anything else involved.
