Nuh no nuh no.. I didn't say going into space was a waste. But maybe this accident might show that either budget is increased...or the program becomes too great a risk to human life and should be abandoned. If it isn't feasible in the state of the US Economy then it just isn't feasible.
Better to abandon the program until such time that it can be revived with full funding than to risk further human life or hundreds of millions of dollars on missions that would fail. I know this isn't a popular opinion at all...but does that mean it is an opinion one should not even consider? Full funding, a full budget and a concerted push to get things right no matter the cost...or nothing. Of course i find it alittle annoying they dont check the tiles in space everytime. I mean i would have assumed thats something they do a little space walk for to at least look.
