OK .. So, I'm watching Enterprise tonight and some of the crew is captured on an alien, pre-warp (pre-atomic, even) planet. The military confiscates all of their gear (3 scanners, 1 phase pistol, and 2 communicators). So, my question is, how are they able to talk to/understand the aliens? There is no mention of a universal translator and even if they had one, it would have been confiscated as well. Funny that these aliens still manage to speak English. Plain silly.
