Is downloading the free developer edition of MX really that
out-of-the-question? It's really not that big (on 1.5kbps DSL it's down
fairly fast, but even on 56k dialup, it would take maybe 3 hours or so),
and he'll get the entire server, with all the bennies (CFFILE,
CFEXECUTE, etc) that he won't get in a shared hosting environment, and
he'll learn administering it as well as developing. He could also look
at Blue Dragon, come to think of it - it might have a smaller footprint
than JRun.
