If the punishment fit the crime then murderers would be killed and rapists castrated. The US system is a representative one where a crime is translated into jail time. Supposable, this is to rehabilitate the criminal, but its really just to put them away from society for a period. If our jails were either more focused on rehabilitation or storage, then it would be good. As is, someone goes to jail and learns even more about crime and usually comes out a better criminal. This is why I'm for sensory deprivation jails. Storage and brainwashing (rehabilitation) all in one. Yep, I'll never get elected on that platform. :)
