  I would postulate that she was worried that he might make similar
  decisions *after* they were married.  I'd bet that it was amplified
  quite a bit by the fact that he hadn't mentioned it, and she felt like
  she was being left out of important parts of his life.

  Not so much the car, but what the car represented.
