Well, they can't prevent the HDD from dying, no. However, they should
have the right tools for pulling it and recovering the data, assuming
it's not crashed already.
I really meant "If it was me, I'd stop screwing with it, because if it's
going to crash, every spin-up is one closer, and I'd take this thing to
a professional before it dies altogether."
I've seen too many clients walk in with a unit with a dead drive, saying
it'd been making loud grinding noises for a week or two, and now won't
work. It's made me paranoid.
