1. To review the film you had to be invited and sign an NDA that said you
would only write good things about it. i.e. no trashing it.
2. He (or his company or someone) made a statement that the Pope said 'it is
as it was'. The Vatican rejected that report. As Gibson is NOT Catholic, it
makes the report even more 'interesting'.
3. He's of a sect that rejects Vatican II. Why is that something not to
trust? Because Vatican II was where the Catholic church 'officially' stopped
blaming the Jews for the death of Jesus.
4. He's a known Holocaust denier as is his father. Doesn't give him any
credibility when dealing in Jewish matters.
5. He went out of his way to use the parts of the NT that are the most
negative about the Jews. The line "his blood is on the Jews" is only said in
Mathew and is one of the MAIN sources of Christian attacks on Jews over the
years.
6. He white washed the Roman's part in the entire event and painted the Jews
as the main instigators and perpetrators. In fact, we know from historical
documents other than Christian sources that Pilate was a tyrant who was well
know for torturing and killing those who disobeyed him. Instead of using him
as he was, it's all blamed on the Jews. The Jews didn't have the power to do
what was done and the punishment (crucifixion) is NOT a Jewish death
sentence. If he said he was the Messiah, then he would be stoned to death.
But I'm not going to get into a debate on this exact part.
Those are just the start, but you see what I'm getting at. The movie looks
like a condemnation against the Jewish people just as much (or more so in
its original form) as it being a passion play. I'm hoping it'll bring
Christians closer to their faith, but I do not want that at the expense of
my people.
