You are right. I was speaking narrowly in terms of the attacks against our
people. The animosities existed prior to our arrival. By removing Saddam and
his rule, we removed a control that he imposed, however cruelly, on the
situation. And we put ourselves in as the target instead.
My point was that if we take the "kill them all" approach, we resort to
similar tactics as Saddam used which was to rule with fear and violence. The
sincere hope is that we can find an alternative that works.
