hey man,

dont feel bad about the way your site may "look".

you never claimed to be a designer, just a developer. I still hold the
opinion that there is a distinct difference.

I know many a designer that could build some flash apps that would make you
cry but could not if/else their way through making the perfect cup of coffee
in the morning.

conversely i know developers (including myself ;), that could build an
application to make toast, scramble some eggs, flip the pages of the paper
for you all while taking your pulse and yet they cant color inside the lines
of a coloring book.

also, sometimes the low design standards of a site have more to do with the
companies constraints than that of the developer. Take Baylor Health Care
for instance. I wrote some bad ass code for that place and their site looks
horrid (http://www.bhcs.com) and yet i would in no way doubt my abilities.

this all goes back to the saying, "dont judge a book by it's cover". The
ONLY way to truely test a developer is IN the work environment. How many of
you can say you NEVER reference a book for some syntax you can't quite
remember off the top of your head? Yet an interview with a technical
assessment would probably determine that as a weakness, when in all
actuallity in the "real world" half of being a good developer is to know
what you are doing and the other half is to realise when you dont and FIGURE
IT OUT.

the employer will figure it out in all due time. I have found that there is
just a FEELING that you get when the right person is in front of you.

keep up the good work Joe.
