Can anyone explain to me how CF8 handles ODBC drivers? I need to use an
Excel ODBC driver (read only) for an old application that I'm moving from
a server with CF5 to one running CF8.

Does CF8 install its own ODBC drivers? I see several available in the CF8
Administrator that I know I didn't install separately. There's no Excel
driver available in the Administrator, so I assume that I'll have to use
one from MDAC that I install myself, although it's not immediately clear
how it's handled in the Administrator.

The problem I'm running into is that although I've installed and
reinstalled MDAC for Windows 2003, the ODBC drivers don't appear to be
fully (or correctly) installed.

On this particular machine, in the ODBC Data Source Administrator I see
three entries under 'User DSN':

dBASE Files
Excel Files
MS Access Database

Clicking 'Configure' for any one of them gives the following errors:

The setup routines for the Microsoft xxxx Driver (*.xxx) ODBC driver
could not be found. Please reinstall the driver.

and:

Component not found in the registry.

On the 'Drivers' tab, only the 'SQL Server' driver is shown.

I'm wondering if the CF8 installation alters or affects the standard ODBC
drivers on the system, or if I should look elsewhere for the source of the
problem.
