I disagree with your contention that the purpose of CF is to produce HTML. I would instead say that the purpose of CF is to build web applications. Web applications don't just "produce HTML", they interact with databases and do all sorts of other things. HTML generation is just one small part of what web applications do. I've had to work on existing applications which combine presentation and business logic, and it hasn't been a pleasant experience. If it's been pleasant for you, by all means, feel free to continue.
