Able Commerce CFMX version is basically a java app with some cfscript tags wrapped around it. I think that was probably the easiest way for them to push out a CF version of their "product". I took a look at it (luckily they had a trial version) and dumped it immediately. It sounds like you may be stuck with it, but let the powers that be know you could probably have CFWebstore up and customized (it's $300) in less time that you will be able to untangle the mess you're in with Able Commerce.
