Sounds to me like your system is so old that it would pay to buy a new PC
with 2-4GB of ram instead of upgrading the current ram.  I remember rambus
being around for a very short time as a transitional ram to what we
currently use. 

There are some cheap Dell configurations, and you can get a decent dual core
PC for under $500.
