I would use iText (http://itextpdf.com/). It's the same code that runs behind CFPDF. I gave up on CFdocumnat about a month ago and haven't looked back. The amount of control I have is great, all my layout issues went away, and it runs faster. CF7/8 ships with version 2 but I used version 5 no problem. It has been refactored so you can use it alongside version 2.
