To me, the only thing that is the "real deal" is a numbers-matching car. On
a numbers-matching car (like my Oldsmobiles) I make a point of keeping
everything as original as possible. The reason I am restifying my El Camino
rather than restoring it is because it is not a numbers-matching unit, not
an SS, not anything that will ever me a museum example of what these cars
were when new. When I have a numbers-matching car, I feel more obligated to
preserve the history. All of this is a matter of personal preference though,
and there is no real answer.
