Well the first thing I would do is get in touch with the Attorney Generals office in your state and ask about recourse. If he intentionally misrepresented the car it's fraud. You will probably have to go to small claims court and sue.  You don't need a lawyer for this just proof the car was a "pig in a poke" (But you can have a lawyer if you choose)If your friend likes the car he may be able to work out something with the seller if the seller knows he is about to be sued. He may also be able to get all his money back if that's what he wants. Lots of people don't like to be bothered with legal action and he may be willing to talk. In any case, call the Attorney Generals office 1st and have your friend ask what he can do. That way he has some ammo when he talks to the guy. If the guy doesn't want to talk, then sue his ass. It will look better in court for your friend if he tried to make a settlement before going to court.

Rich,

Do you have any more detailed information on this? I have a friend with a sorely misrepresented car...

Here in Michigan, and I'm certain other states are the same, if someone miss represents a car as being something it's not, you can sue.

my two cents  , i owned an ss and I've clone several, the only way to tell them apart is to have a build sheet, and numbers match block,, that where the high money is,  if you choose to invest in a chevelle have this in mind and you wont get burnt. these cars are old enough to have been though several restoration, , nowadays one does not know what going on in one's garage,,,,,, do your home work,  things to look for on  true ss car, s that have no matching engines,  fuel lines, suspension parts  steering parts, these are always dead give away's for small block cars, , James
