The stock Chevy HEI works pretty well on a street engine. Just use good wires and lighter springs to match your engine/trans/gear combo. The crane adjustable vac canister and spring kit is a good low cost modification to help fine tune it. MSD stuff is good for racing but not really needed on  street engine. I then went to a MSD coil/module/cap / wires.not long after I did all that it wouldn't start.There was no spark.
