I've used my hoist to lift bodies numerous times. It will not lift the body
by its self. The lift arm isn't long enough nor would it be stable enough. I
use the hoist on the front end (the heavy end) and a floor jack with large
wood blocks on the back end (lifting on the floorpans just in front of the
rear wheel wells). Works great but be very careful the stability in the back
is marginal at best. I only go up a few inches at a time on each end to keep
it level and block it each time. Mine is a "Habor Freight type" lift and has
served me well for 5 years. Car bodies and fully loaded big blocks don't
even make it grunt.
