Dale,

To my knowledge the answer to that is No,  If the 69 SS didn't have the D96 option it had no side stripe at all. My 69 SS L78 purchased new by my uncle and purchased my me in 74 had no side stripe.

Trooper or any 69 guru.

The small pin stripe was standard on the Malibu according to the GM Resto Kit information (except with SS only 72 and 76 paint). The SS side stripes were optional (RPO D96) on all SS models.  Does this mean that all Malibu based SS cars NOT opting for the D96 stripes would still have the pin stripe?  Curious minds want to know. :*)

Actually the side stripe was an option in 69. It was not part of the SS package so some SS's had them and other didn't. You probably read about the hood and trunk stripes on 69's in Herd's book. That book is riddled with mistakes. Don't take it as a correct reference. There are no known 69 SS Chevelles to my knowledge (or anyone else on Team Chevelle) that cam from the factory with the large hood and trunk stripes as on the 70-72 Chevelles. There was some reference to it in the literature but none were produced.

Hello List,

I have a really technical questions for the group.

In 69 all SS Chevelles came with the side pin striping which extended from fount fender to rear light, but apparently this is not so true. Doing a little more extensive research I find out that in the late of 69 production Chevelle applied rally stripes on the rear deck lid and the front hood. Does anyone on the list have any pictures or own a car with such stripes or have anymore information on these 69 with the rally stripes???

THanks Joe P.
