this wasn't directed to me, but I seem to be running my mouth a lot
lately, so will add here too, lol. The severity of LP varies from chi to
chi. I would agree with you vet to try a weight loss regime and pain pills
to see if that controls the symptoms before I put the little fellow
through surgery. Often times, the surgery doesn't help if it is bad and
sometimes it can even make a minor case even worse. There is no harm in
trying less invasive options first.

I have never delt with LP, thankfully. I make a point to check all my pups
on this. I really don't know what I would do if it it ever did show up!
Probably cry my eyes out, then end up keeping the pup forever, lol.
However, I did deal with something similar. My first chi had a stroke when
he was 12 years old, which left his front legs progressively drawing in.
At first, vet said he wouldn't live long...maybe 6 months, so just treat
him for pain.( He ended up living another 4 years with the problem getting
worse and worse. )When it happened, "I" was in law school in another
state. When it was obvious he was gonna live, I brought him to my home vet
who told me surgery would have helped had it been done in the beginning,
but at that point it was too late. He sent me to some specialist, ect, but
bottom line, there was nothing to stop0 the drawing nor reverse it. He was
not in pain from it, but I still kept him on pain pills just in case. The
last 4 years of his life , I had to carry him every step, including to his
bathroom spot.
Don't ask me why I told that story...I don't have a clue...guess I am
bored and remanicing, lol
