I had the same problem but with his peeing himself when I got home. I realized 
(with help from this forum) that I was helping to make the problem a lot worse 
by being excited to see him. Folks told me to come home and VERY calmly 
greet/pet him & not rush right to him thus perpetuating the behavior. I don't 
know if this helps but it sure helped us. We're still happy to see each other 
only its not manic. I do notice that when I'm gone longer than usual he'll need 
a bit more loving, as the usual 2-3 minute belly rub and kisses do not suffice.
