Another cheap heat is a hot water bottle. I fill several for my geriatric
chi's. I also use a large electric pad for dogs. You can also use it in the
car. Finally I have bags filled with feed corn or cherry pits that get heated
up in the microwave.
At night 5 babies get to sleep in the bed. They take turns!
During the day I have then wear velcro style vests. They can't slip out of then.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] keeping Chi's warm

Hi Guys...here are some things I do to keep my little one warm on this snowy
mountain!!!

1. Make Buckwheat pillows...just a simple square sewed up with whole buckwheat
from a healthfood store put in. If you are making a 12" square pillow you would
need about 4 cups of buckwheat. Heat in microwave and stays warm for 2-3 hours.
2. Heating pads from Rite Aid or Walgreens or Online. Get the ones WITHOUT auto
shut off so they stay on all night or all day. They run about $10. and are
about
18" square. I position these under a dog bed or make a polar fleece slip cover
for them. If you are worried about chewed cords then run the coards through a
length of  PVC pipe. I covered my "pipes" with cute matching fabric so I didn't
have a white plastic pipe showing.
3. And of course one can never have too many pairs of winter PJ's for lounging
around the house LOL...both me and the dogs! LOL!!! Someday when I get the time
I want to make a set of matching PJ's for all of us...wouldn't it be cute??? 5
little dogs all snuggled in polar fleece or flannel Pj's matching mine for
Movie
and popcorn time!?? I know..I am so wierd!!!!

These are just 2 cheap options!!! I would LOVE to have heated beds but they are
pricey so I just use the heating pads and the buckwheat pillows. You can throw
cinnimon into the buckwheat so every time you toss it in the microwave your
whole house smells YUMMY!!! My dogs seem to really enjoy the smell of cinnemon
too!

When I make my polar fleece dog beds I sew in a pocket that holds the buckwheat
pillows which keeps the dogs from dragging them around like toys.
