If she does go to a stranger, I wouldn't be shy to charge an adoption fee. If some one can't afford it, then they may not be able to afford further proper care for her. If it were me, I would only charge the Vet fees, and I wouldn't adopt her out until she is spayed/UTD, because you just cannot trust other people to always do the right thing when it comes to spaying/neutering. Which means, you will have her for a few months before she is strong enough to be spayed. JMO. Which you probably already figured out anyway, lol. And I agree it is not easy, not to get attached once they are with you for a couple of months. I have heard some rescue people say that the two hardest things of being a rescue... is: one, going to a shelter and having to choose who gets saved and who doesn't, and two, then letting them go to their new home.. It would really be great if your ex does take her, then you would be able to see her from time to time and it does sound like a perfect match too Maybe she is only wee wee pad trained? Funny thing, Gigi was only outside trained, so I had to train her for the pads. It's way to cold here in NY in the winters, so I had no choice, and she did do very well at it within two weeks. Well, it will be interesting to see how she looks and how she is, in the months ahead, that's for sure. I do think she will bond with him Also he is very close with his parents, and goes to there home on the weekends, and he takes Peanut, (the Jack) with him. His mom has 2 chihuahuas one I got for her when I was married. I am sure his mom will love and pamper her when he takes her. But if it doesn't work out, I will find her a good home, I don't have any doubts. She seems to be crate trained. Last 2 nights she has slept quiet. My dogs sleep with me. I didn't want to have her start sleeping with me in case the adopter doesn't want to sleep with her. Plus I am trying not to get attached, as I am at my limit financially. I don't think she is house broke, she had an accident this morning, but it was on the floor and not my carpet, so easy clean up. I think she will get the hang of it, being around my 3. I am just excited I got her out, and she has a second chance. A lot of times when a dog looses that much weight that fast, their main organs, especially the kidneys start to show signs of shutting down. I have seen worse, if you can believe that, and the dogs can and do make a full recovery. It is best if you do get all the test done now, that way any one who adopts her will know where she stands for the future. Did the shelter say where she came from? I can't believe that some one there didn't call a rescue 2 weeks ago, if she came in under weight to begin with. Or the least they could have done was make sure that she was eating. When I rescued Princess she was 5 pounds underweight because she had 3 types of worms. Had she stayed at the shelter for another week she would have looked as bad as your little Angel.
