What a haunting image of Molly is left in my mind. If this isn't a reason
to NEVER EVER leave your pets unattended, I don't know what is. Just look
at the damage the hawk did to this little girl, the wounds on poor little
Molly? Just awful, and then there's the mental trauma the she suffered in
addition to having her body almost ripped to shreds. I tell everyone I
meet with a small dog, whether I know them well or not, if they're just
walking their small dogs I try to strike up a conversation with them when I am
out doing yard work, please do not leave your small dogs outside without you.
Even with you, large birds are a threat. Keep them close to you. Keep
them secured with a harness and leash and check the sky. And I do see the
hawks and peregrine falcons circling in the sky in our area (northern OHIO),
looking for food, but they are everywhere. I read that small dogs are
snatched off of New York City (and other places) balconies all the time. The
people come out and their precious dog are just gone, forever. We live in
a very woodsy area and they are out there. Just because a person lives in a
subdivision of homes it does not give any protection from these predators.
