Well…your list reminds me of the one that I sent to the realtor here when I was in California…most of the things that I wanted were inside the home, though. But close to stores, doctors, and hospitals were the ones that were exterior.
Well…let’s see what we do have that you don’t want: We have the winds…but they come for a few days and then are gone. It is not every day. The oak trees…I have to see if they are drought tolerant…are you allergic or just don’t want one? There are a few fissures and a small fault but when I talked to an insurance agent, he said that there have not been any earthquakes in his lifetime. The faults that are here are very small, they are not like California’s San Andreas Fault. I have never felt an earthquake…maybe once I thought I did. I asked my neighbors and they said no. They are from Illinois. I think that the general perception is what they see of the earthquakes in California with building collapsing, freeways breaking apart, etc. I think the one that I felt might have been one from California but I only felt the gentle rocking motion of a very small one or the end of a bigger one. I don’t think many people have real grass. Bermuda grass is not allowed. Most people might have Astroturf in a small part of their landscaping, but my front (as it came from the builder) is rocks, a few boulders and some plants…which I was surprised that there was more than cactus and some of the plants are very pretty. Violence & Crime…hmmm. I think that is anywhere. I was told that the part of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas that is on the east side of the interstate is the older part and there is more crime. I look at the crime map online sometimes and there are areas where there is some crimes and not too far from me. I think that one of the factors is the type of homes. I live in a gate community – 144 homes. Most of the neighborhoods are surrounded by block walls, so when driving down most main roads, you don’t see the houses, so the neighborhoods are more pleasant looking and you usually don’t have to take your life in your hands to back out of your driveway. The place where crimes are committed are usually in the apartments, condos, and townhomes which are rented out. I think most of the newer areas that are owner-occupied do not have as much crime. Homeowners generally take better care of their yards and communities. So, the Las Vegas area is not too far from what you want. I don’t know a whole lot about Henderson. Although I don’t see posts from Shanna and Ricky lately, she lives way at the south end of Las Vegas near Henderson so if she is reading posts then she may be able to give you more info about Henderson. I know that sounded like I disliked Las Vegas, when we really cannot wait to visit there and if you saw my more recent post that we were exploring possibly living there because we would like to be somewhere we no longer have to deal with ice and snow. We are looking for a place to retire with no snow, no ice, no freezing temperatures, no heavy rains, no humidity, no high winds, no oak trees, no fault lines, no hurricanes, no tornadoes, no grass to cut, no violence, no crime, ha, did I leave anything out, which I know pretty much turns out to be Nowhere, USA. I guess we're going to have to compromise about something. We do love mountainous scenery. I sure hope the allergy injections work for you. I see with my husband how miserable allergies to allergens can make you feel. Lynn In a message dated 5/4/2011 9:06:36 P.M. I moved from California due to allergies three years and ago and this year I am really feeling the new allergies that have developed. After brain surgery, I will ask for a referral to a good allergist and get tested and hopefully get the allergy injections so that I can live a long life here without popping antihistamines every day. Today my pollen alert shows yellow (I know it isn’t good, just better than red) for today and then the following three days. How we really need this. Both Dolly & Desi come in with runny eyes. Desi has been on Benadryl for that and Dolly has the Atarax that will hopefully stop the runny eyes and also keep her lungs clear.
