When I had my male Maltese, he never marked before or after he was neutered. The only reason why I decided to get him neutered at the time was because I also rescued a female Maltese, and even though when she was old enough and I got her spayed, the male still wanted to constantly mate with her. I also noticed some protective aggression with him. Once he got neutered, he stopped both issues on his own.
I hear of people complaining all the time about their males, and sometimes I wonder just how much is marking and how much is the truth that the dog was never really housebroken to begin with. And most of the times the owner is not the Alpha in the pack either, and the dogs know it. When I had males, I found them to be much easier and faster to housebreak then the females. Even when I was a kid, all we ever had were males, and never had issues of them marking, or just peeing in the house, and they were never neutered either because my Dad did not believe in it. So if you don't think that your dogs have any health issues that can be contributed to their constant peeing in the house, then I would suggest to start housebreaking all over again from scratch like they were puppies using a crate for each one of them. Even if you do neuter them, they still have developed the habit of peeing wherever they want to, and would still have to be housebroken all over again. Neutering isn't a miracle cure, it only addresses part of the problem. Housebreaking is the other part, and sticking to a rigid schedule of feeding, letting them out to do their business and walk time and play time, and most importantly re-training the basic commands daily, even if they know them, so that you can establish yourself as the Alpha, until you see absolutely no mistakes with them. Everyone must make their own decisions on the health and well being of their dogs. I have seen first hand prostrate cancer in unneutered dogs. I will not take that chance. I have had neutered male dogs all my life..have four now..and never have I had a marking problem in my house. When I met my husband he had an unneutered dog and when he brought him over my dogs would mark. Obviously he got fixed before both of them moved in..lol.. Never have I had a health problem occur from neutering..just the opposite. So for me it is a no brainer..no mess in the house and better for their temperament and health. If you enjoy the marking..keep the balls.. I am not a newby as a dog owner. I think many of you here should read more, and be more updated on dog health. This sounds like an old record repeating on and on.. This sounds like a common sense to me: http://healthypets.mercola com/sites/healthypets/archive/2013/02/11/ted-kerasote-interview-part-two aspx --- In Chihuahuas@yahoogroups.com, Kitty LeMarr <flojax3@...> wrote: > > Unneutered male dogs are more prone to prostate cancer!
