Comment #58 on issue 1028 by rjw.pope: Do not stop downloads when closing
the corresponding tab/window

@chu121su12: There would be no reason to restore the closed tabs

"Clicking the close button indicates that the user has completed their
browsing"

If you have completed your browsing - you no longer need to browse. You
seem to have
stumbled upon a completely separate issue: At present, when you close
chrome, all the
tabs go bye bye. I feel this should still be the case only the downloads
should
remain active.

Your point about the tray isn't wholly true - many versions of Linux have a
notification area. I can't speak for Mac users. Also, at present I don't
believe any
OS other than Windows 2000/XP/Vista are supported by Chrome. As such easing
up
windows users' problems is our first concern. The team porting to Mac/Linux
would be
responsible for conjuring alternatives (that's not to say that we shouldn't
try and
come up with portable solutions).
