I am in india, where I pay by the MB(for high speed internet). I mainly check email, read articles and occasionally watch videos. My usage is generally about 80MB/day... Now I have started using Opera, where I can disable Images, and use their TURBO feature to disable flash, and set cache and history to 100MB so that i can store the standard images etc My usage has come down to 10MB/day. and It is faster to surf.
I have chromium, opera, safari, firefox and internet explorer... and end up using opera all the time, even though chromium is faster. I would suggest making a config page, which is difficult to access(like the tab usage/statistic page), but easy to use.... should work like a dream for people in my situation. Disabling flash, images etc will make usage lower and speeds higher.
