Alas, It would appear that, though my card and glxinfo _say_ they support OpenGL 2.0, it would appear that in fact they do not. (GeForce FX 5700 256Mb)
Definitely, any time I attempt to do anything that might be vaguely OpenGL related (fades, dissolves, etc), their is a CPU spike and 60+ percent drop in frame rate. Sigh. Might have to fork for some new hardware. Does leave me a little confused though as to exactly what glxinfo is reporting.
