I should add that what I have been doing (as root, on FC6) is
/sbin/modprobe ieee1394
/sbin/modprobe raw1394
/sbin/modprobe video1394
chmod a+rw /dev/raw1394
and that makes Linux happy and dvgrab works. But there are security issues
with the chmod.
