I'm searching for a S-Video decoder to MPEG2-4 encoder that meets the
following requirements:
- standalone or frame grabber card with driver for Linux
- suiteable MPEG format for Cinelerra editing
- high S-video to MPEG quality (color separation and resolution)

Suggestions?

I'm looking for a "prosumer cost level". From before I already a have
analog S-video processor/color corrector and a TBC. Therefore I don't
need these things built-in once more in a new unit. Instead I wish to
spend the money on the best ADC with regards to color separation,
resolution and bandwidth.

To use a standalone hardware box my guess is that a Firewire and 25Mbps
bitrate transfer to PC harddisk with dvgrab must be used. As I also are
faced to eidit with newer HDV footages, my PC hardware (laptop,
workstation) requirements will be scaled for that purpose.

Some cards and boxes looks to also have support for HDTV IN or
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Video encoding. Therefore I wonder if there are any
limitation with regards to MPEG formats that can be used with dvgrab or
Cinelerra?

Terje J. Hanssen
