More like taxes on devices that can record "television".
Back in the day, there were European models of video camcorders which had
both the video input circuitry _and_ the plug ... but no opening in the
camera body to expose that plug! Workaround: Make a hole in the plastic
to uncover the plug you weren't supposed to have.
Certain taxes cause a lot of brain damage...
