Although I haven't tested it yet, my new Sony HDR-FX7E HDV & DV camcorder allows HDV and DV recording from an external source through the i.Link Input. However, reading the above, I discovered on the web an adapter/cable product "DVMax enabler" that unlock many DV/D8 camcorders so that they can be used as a portable DV recorder http://www.mamut.net/dracosystem/subdet37.htm --Terje J.
