No big deal once you know how a kernel compile works. yes, of course. The point I wanted to make is: Beginners are often scared because they can't find a "current RT-kernel". Then they start trying to patch and bake one themselves (which, as such is a good exercise!), only to find that there are problems, that other patches (for some additional drivers, laptops, non-free drivers, wlan and similar are missing in vanilla), resulting in a big loose of time and much frustration.
