See, I'm just too old fashioned for some of this new fangled technology
stuff. I believe people should stay put... sit down someplace and do some
real work, and not just be wandering from place to place smokin' and jokin'
and other things.
But you are absolutely correct that those more hip than I do indeed want to
do just that - go from room to room, floor to floor, meeting to meeting, and
have all their services available for whatever reason.
What is it that guy in Maryland is always asking? "what is the problem you
are trying to solve?"

OK, that's a good point. &;-) What I had in mind was getting a new IP
address as you walk around a building or between buildings, without
rebooting. I guess you would only do this with a wireless computer, though!
When you enter the realm of a new subnet, you need a new address and
default router. There are ways of handling this, but I would still put this
in the realm of disadvantages for wirless. The methods for getting a new IP
address for a roaming wireless device are complex and not as well-tested as
DHCP.
Cisco's method of handling this is called Mobile IP.
A "home address" is assigned for an extended time to a mobile node. It
remains unchanged regardless of where the node is.
A "home agent" router on a mobile node's home network tunnels packets to
the mobile node while it is away from home.
A "foreign agent" router on a mobile node's visited network provides
routing services to the mobile node. The foreign agent detunnels and
delivers datagrams to the mobile node that were tunneled by the mobile
node's home agent. For datagrams sent by a mobile node, the foreign agent
may serve as a default router for registered mobile nodes.
