However remember that going from ethernet to token ring only works in a relattively
"transparent" (pardon the pun) way with the same layer 3 protocol - that is ip over
ethernet to ip over token ring. Different layer 3 (or higher) requires a gateway -
for example, Novell's IP to IPX gateway that they pushed for a while. And in this
case, we are talking different application layers (at least I don't think you're
trying to do FTP, HTTP etc over SNA). So you're talking MS SNA Server to do a
terminal emulator client or a EHLLAPI-enabled application over IP to the SNA server
out SDLC or LLC to the mainframe (of cource doing DLSW or STUN on your Cisco routers!).

If this is not your intention, please clarify.

Yes, you can do this but I'm not sure of the details. We have equipment
from another vendor in our network that does exactly what you're talking
about. It's an NT server, but it's speaks SDLC on a serial port and it
exists as a PU on our SNA network. The router port is configured in the
same way we would configure it for IBM terminal controllers or our Automated
Teller Machines.

At this point, though, IP is irrelevant so I don't know if this answers your
question or not. In this case, you wouldn't really be converting it, per
say, just adding different functionality. It's like asking "Can I convert
my BMW into a waffle iron?" Well...yes, but it will no longer resemble a
car. :-)

I hope that helps. I wish I had some more details to give you but I really
don't know that much about SNA.

Regards,
John
