It pains me to respond to this but it has to be done. I apologise to
groupstudy for continuing with this. Feel free to just ignore it
(which I tried to do).
I cannot believe, at a time when the free world should be pulling
together, that some people feel the need to inflame emotions and
attempt to turn America into an inward looking, solitary nation.
I have responded to some statements inline.

This makes it sound like no other country made sacrifices in WWII!
Millions of European men, women and children were killed in that war.
Now, WWII would have been lost if it were not for the intervention of
the US, the whole world knows that and appreciates it.

The author is obviously the victim of national propaganda. Whenever a
natural disaster strikes anywhere in the world the majority of the
wealthier nations intervene in any way they can. Britain always makes
itself available in these situations - I can name dozens of examples
but I don't feel I need to defend Britain right now.

Again, in these situations our Prime Minister WITHOUT FAIL offers the
help of our military and emergency services and they did so again
this week. Our help has been declined by the US which I can
understand that but we are always there should our help be needed.

1) Nobody is gloating about the strength of the Dollar - it is still
the benchmark for every currency in the world and will remain so.
2) Hello? Airbus? Hello? Concorde?

Well yes, we do in fact. The new double decker Airbus design is so
good that Boeing have pulled out of that part of the airliner market
altogether and ceased development of their own double decker concept.
Plus, Airbus were the first to use a full commercial fly-by-wire
system, which is probably the biggest development in airline
technology of the last 10 years. Right now, the Airbus A3*0 series is
just as well respected as the Boeing 7*7 series.

wrong wrong wrong. Even US lines use Airbus planes - they don't care
about patriotism, just profit so, whatever plane best fits their
needs, they buy.

What purpose would it serve? The US doesnt bother anymore and they
only did it then to show off to the Russians.

That is possibly THE most ridiculous statement ever made.

statement possible.....

You should see the state of the railway system in the UK, it's
atrocious. Would anyone mind lending us a few billion so fix it?

Yes, you remember the holiday you have called "Thanksgiving"?
Research it. (apologies for the sarcasm)
The major nations of this world all help each other in many ways,
some obvious and some invisible. If the US chooses to decline our
offers of help what else can we do?

Help was offered from Europe and again was turned away - the US,
quite rightly, wants to demonstrate it's interior strength by
handling these situations alone, more power to them.

Yes, they will come out of this with the flag held high, they will
rebuild and be stronger and more vigilant in the future.
I would like you to indicate ANY nation (certain areas of the Middle
East excepted) that feels anything but sorrow, horror and grief about
the events of this week. Also, please don't forget that many of the
dead are not American. Hundreds will be British and thousands more
will be European, Japanese, Indian..... etc

It is a shame that the author sees America as cut off from the rest
of the world - I can assure everyone that it is not the case.

I am sorry that someone felt the need to write this drivel,
particularly at such a sensitive time. All of our thoughts are with
the suffering souls in New York and Washington and their family and
friends wherever they may be.

Thanks

Charlie
