You are correct Phil, this is also what I found.

RIP does support poison reverse.

The text book was incomplete.

Also on page 488 of "All in one CCIE Study Guide", second edition they say

that the RIP holdddown timer is not used. I gess I should check this other
too.

Can't trust the books!

implementations. They set the metric to infinity or
16.
I have verifified this by lab using a sniffer.
