I believe that this link will explain everything about the Catalyst 4006 power system. It looks like you need at least 2 power supplies at minimum. We have been running a 4006 for 2 years with 2 power supplies. So far we haven't had any problems with them.

I also like the fact that if two powersupplies die it will still probably run and I can take my time replacing them.
