in the old days of vlan switching, there was serious discussion of using vlans to separate traffic by protocol. set up ports 1,3 and 5 as IP and ports 2,4, and 6 as IPX. More importantly, put all those renegade AppleTalk users on their own VLAN so their traffic doesn't bother people with real work to do ( ;-> ) I don't know if there is serious talk of this any more.
