Hello,

If you are willing to spend a few dollars, you can buy a quieter
fan than those Cisco uses at most computer shows.

Of course, the reason why fans make noise is the turbulence coming
off the edges. I have a design for a fan with no edges that should run
almost completely silent. At first I was just going to cut the edges off,
but that was messy, so instead I tried wrapping a circle of material
around the fan blades. It moves with the fan and being a circle has no
edges. __

Of course, I haven't actually replaced any Cisco fans yet, since I
love the sound of helicopters taking off in the morning...
(you should hear the sound off the 2 Cisco 7000s I just got...!)

        Yours Truly - Bruce Evry
