Well, notice that I said broadcasts not unicasts. It shouldn't send unicasts to a disconnected port because it couldn't have learned of any MAC addresses out that port. Well, while still trying to learn the location of MAC addresses, it could, I guess. Flooding out all ports for an unknown unicast is normal. How do you know that it's ending unicasts to the port?? > Passing packets to a switchport in the diconnected > state would > not make sense. > I imagine that the logic built into the siwtch would not do > this. Yes, I would imagine that too, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's not that smart, on the other hand. > I have > other switches, Extreme networks, that do not register any > dropped packets > for unplugged interfaces. So you think that its CAM bridging table is messed up and it's sending packets that should go out a live port to a port where nothing is connected?? The only way it would send a packet to the wrong port and cause TCP connections to be dropped was if the cam table was corrupted. That could mean bad memory or it could be a bad static cam entry. I agree that this is squirrely. Call TAC?? Good luck. Keep us posted. Thanks.
