TTF can *never* be embedded directly in PS files, except when converted to Type42 fonts. Don't even bother doing that; it's pointless and you'll get a headache. If you use for example the font SunExtA.ttf, then yes, you can embed these glyphs in the PDF using the technique explained in doc/pdfhowto/HOWTO.txt. There's no reason to use TTF directly. If you're willing to do the efforts mentioned in pdfhowto/HOWTO.txt, then you're much better off trying the Fontforge technique, which will allow you nice PDF as well as PS output. You won't notice the difference between the TTF cubic and the PS bezier splines if you print out the TeX documents.
