Yes, but you know as well as anyone that you can't always simulate a
production environment in a test environment.  We simply don't have
the hardware to simulate an environment processing 5 million
messages/day which is where we first hit trouble.

Once we understood the problem, pushing out new config files was
automated, but I still say that developers should NOT surprise users
of their software.  It's a basic robustness principle that if the
configuration file has not changed, then the software behaviour should
not change either.
