Hi Brian:

Creating a new distro of Linux is certainly quite an undertaking. May I suggest you really give very careful consideration to the resources that this would involve. I am saying this from my own experience. The new distro I mentioned that we would be soon offering has gone thru several versions and has had dozens of experts working on it for quite some time.
I know its alot of work, but this is more something that I'm going to do as a hobby in my spare time. I'm in no rush...

You may wish to evaluate our new distro when it is available--from what my partner tells me, it is one of the best he has seen and incorporates a lot of things.
Sure, I would be very interested to see it. :-)

Not that I want to discourage anyone--just wanted to point this out as something for your careful consideration.
Yep, its a good point. A few years back actually I tried making a distribution. I followed the Linux From Scratch documents and actually got quite far. I was able to build the file system, get it booting, and install a few packages. This time around I actually have an idea of how to go about it, so I hope I'll get a bit farther this time. Maybe I'll actually get it to the point of something usable, lol.

Anyway, I appreciate the input.

Best regards,

Brian H.

Hi everyone,

I am considering creating a new Linux distribution in my spare time. One not based on any other distribution. If at all possible I would be very interested to hear what all of you would like to see in an *ideal* distributions. What features do you like in existing distributions? What "features" do you dislike in existing distributions? What do you think gives a distribution a polished, functional, and professional appearance?
What packages do you think I should give priority in including?

I value any and all feedback. Thank you very much.

Regards,

Brian H.
